Applying for a loan with the help of Wen Bash

When buying a home, applying for financing is exasperating for many people, but it doesn't have to be. I've got great connections to various mortgage lenders in the Princeton area, and they've helped me recognize some things that make the process of applying for a loan easy.

1 – Assemble a list of questions regarding your loan program

Be sure to have a list of questions with you if you do not thoroughly comprehend the advantages and disadvantages of all the different loan programs. I or one of my lender contacts can assist you in understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each one, because it's hard to know the distinctions between fixed and adjustable rate mortgages.

2 – Decide when to lock

By locking in the interest rate, a lender is keeping to the interest rates for the loan – generally at the time the loan application is submitted. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate at any time between application and the issuing of closing documents. Buyers who choose to float believe the interest rates will decline in the near future. Click here to see the outlook for the next 90 days of interest rates.

3 – Decide if you want to pay additional points to decrease your interest rate

Typically you can elect to pay additional points to lower the interest rate of your mortgage loan. Every point is 1 percent of the mortgage loan and is payable in cash at the time of closing. If you're undecided as to whether or not buying points is right for you, click here to use our points calculator.

4 – Gather your paperwork

Getting a mortgage loan requires lots of paperwork, so you should take some time to get all your documents together. Click here to get a feel for normal information that goes on a loan application.
